fondant

my favorite thing to bake is cupcakes
its actually kind of an obsession :)
i usually bake funfetti (my fav) with some buttercream icing like so
but because of the weddings i've been doing, i have been very intrigured by fondant, which is a different kind of icing that is very smooth and hardens slightly.  its usually used on wedding cakes or other special occasion cakes and looks like so:

so i decided to take a whack at it (thank you parent trap).  
i spent yesterday making some marshmallow fondant by hand since i heard people like the taste better, although i have tried regular fondant many times at weddings and dont despise the taste.  my biffles seaside/city girl took pics while her lil sis helped me out-- will be posting those later
so after letting the fondant sit for a night, i made cupcakes today- using a new technique ive heard about, pouring a can of soda in with the mix to replace the eggs/oil/water...by the way the turned out, lets just say i'm NOT a fan...

usually my cuopcakes are nice and round- perfect for covering with fondant.  because these were horrible, i was only able to salvage 4 and cover them with fondant- here's my results:

pretty good for a first time don't you think? i'm excited to do more in the future!
